Here I am standing in my creep-like pose with my final prints for printmaking. This process was immensely fun having to go back and forth in between two mediums I enjoy the most. I started by taking photographs of my grandfather and then making woodcuts of him. I then printed the woodcuts like one usually would through the press and found myself somewhat unsatisfied with the results. Between the print and the actual wood there was a drastic difference that left the print completely inferior to the way the wood portrayed my grandfather. At lost with any eventual progress, I decided to take the actual wood down to the lighting studio and take photographs of them. The three-dimensionality of this piece took on a more prominent role then I initially thought. However, within the confines of the printmaking process, displaying the actual woodblocks during critique would leave the actual presentation uninspiring to the viewer. Using the subject matter of the floating heads, I decided to scale them up and print them on Somerset(printmaking paper), adding to the humorous content already present and also further insinuating the relationships drawn from each face.
This was a great way to end the semester.
